Beyond Cricket

Duke of
Edinburgh Award

Junior cricketers aged 14+ can complete components of their Duke of Ed requirements with the Bears.

About the Award

What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?

The Award is a leading structured youth development program, empowering young Australians aged 14–24 to explore their full potential and find their purpose, passion, and place in the world, regardless of location or circumstance.

The Award is fully inclusive with no social, political, or religious affiliations. To achieve an Award, each young person must learn a skill, improve their physical wellbeing, volunteer in their community, and experience a team adventure in a new environment. All participants are supported by a network of adult assessors.

Our Involvement

Why Are the Bears Involved?

As a premier junior cricket club and one of the largest in NSW, we feel it's important to give back to the community. Being associated with this Award represents an opportunity to invest further in youth personal development while being associated with a quality international brand.

We hope it will encourage more juniors to play the game and for longer, while also being exposed to the benefits of volunteering and giving back to the club.

North Sydney Junior District Cricket Club is a proud partner with Cricket NSW as an official participant in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

How to Participate

Three Components

Junior cricketers aged 14+ can complete a number of their Duke of Ed requirements with the Bears across three areas:

🏃
Physical Recreation

Join a Bears Junior Cricket team, complete your training, and complete your game time.

🤝
Voluntary Service

Select from a range of volunteering activities including:

• Supporting junior cricket and Blaster training/coaching sessions

• Game day warm-ups, umpiring, and scoring

• Club website and social media content creation

• Club event organisation

• Annual kit collection, distribution, and equipment clean-up

🎓
Skills

Skills development cannot relate to any facet of the physical aspect of playing the game.

A number of the volunteering opportunities listed (e.g. coaching and umpiring) can class as skill development, however the same activity cannot be selected for both Volunteering and Skills.

Please liaise with your school's Duke of Ed leader for further guidance.

Assessors

What is the Role of the Assessor?

They act as a supervisor for the activity being undertaken by the participant and will complete an online form at the end of the scheduled activity period to confirm the activity has been successfully completed.

The assessor is likely to be a team coach, manager, or committee member and must have a Working With Children Certificate.
